About this worksheet

Six fact families, each given as three numbers in a rounded box, with four blank equations underneath: two multiplication and two division. The sets are 3, 7, 21 then 4, 8, 32 then 6, 9, 54 then 5, 7, 35 then 2, 9, 18 and 8, 10, 80. Filling the page means writing twenty-four equations in all.

This is the page that makes the link between the two operations explicit. Once a child sees that 6 x 9, 9 x 6, 54 divided by 6 and 54 divided by 9 are four ways of saying the same thing, the amount left to memorize drops sharply. It is worth doing the first box together out loud before handing the rest over, since the idea is simple but the format is unfamiliar the first time.

What students will practice

  • Write two multiplication facts from a set of three numbers
  • Write the two division facts that belong to the same family
  • See how multiplication and division undo each other
