About this worksheet

A number line from 0 to 10 runs across the top of the page, with a kangaroo showing how it works: start at 7, hop back three times, and land on 4. Below are eight problems for the child to solve the same way.

The number line is the step between counting pictures and doing subtraction in your head. There is still something to count, but it is hops rather than objects, which is how counting back starts to feel natural.

The problems run from 3 − 3 to 10 − 5, so a child uses the whole line from one end to the other.
