Subtraction Story Problems Worksheet for Kindergarten

About this worksheet

Four little stories from the park: six ducks and two swim away, five birds and three fly away, four squirrels and one runs off, eight balloons and three float away. Each story has its pictures lined up underneath and a big box for the answer.

The sentences are short and repeat the same pattern, so a grown-up can read them aloud while the child does the math, or an early reader can try them alone. Either way, the child crosses out the ones that leave and counts what is still there.

Word problems within 10 are part of the kindergarten standard, and these are the gentlest kind: the story says exactly what to take away, and the pictures are right there to count.
