About this worksheet

Six pairs of dice faces. The child counts the dots on each die, writes the two numbers into the boxes, and subtracts the second from the first. The first pair is done as an example: six take away two is four.

Dice faces are one of the first patterns children learn to recognize without counting, so this page builds number sense and subtraction together. Every number stays at six or below, which keeps it well within reach.

Once the page is finished, a real pair of dice turns it into a game: roll, write the bigger number first, and subtract.
