The step up from circling to writing. Twelve black-and-white workers each sit above a blank line, with a word bank at the top holding all twelve job names: baker, scientist, dancer, mechanic, nurse, gardener, librarian, firefighter, artist, bus driver, barber, and mail carrier. Kids identify each picture and write its job name, spelling it correctly by copying from the bank.
Because the words are supplied, the challenge is reading the picture and forming the letters, not inventing spelling, which keeps it doable for first graders while still being real writing practice. The plain line art can be colored afterward for anyone who finishes early.
