Bug Count and Compare Greater Than Less Than Worksheet

About this worksheet

Five rounded panels each hold two groups of bugs with a box between them: ladybugs, bees, butterflies, snails and ants, in full color. The child counts each side, writes the number on the line underneath, and then puts the comparison symbol in the box. Counts stay small, between three and eight, and the butterfly row has five on each side so an equals sign turns up early.

This is the on-ramp for the set. Because the numbers are written down before they are compared, a child who miscounts can see where it went wrong instead of guessing at a symbol. The groups are deliberately scattered rather than lined up in neat rows, which is harder than it looks and is worth watching for: pointing at each bug while counting is the habit this sheet is really building.
