About this worksheet

Eight sets of three numbers fill this page, each with three rounded boxes alongside for the answer. The numbers climb to 50 and most sets mix a single digit with two two-digit numbers, so 9, 31, 20 and 27, 6, 41 both reward a child who checks the tens digit first. A fox and a hedgehog peer over a stack of books beside the orange and green title, and a purple beaded border frames the page.

This is the sheet for the point where ordering stops being about counting and starts being about place value. Once numbers pass twenty, a child who compares by counting up will run out of patience, and the faster habit, look at the tens, only look at the ones if the tens match, is what these eight sets drill. Eight rows is enough for that habit to show up as a habit rather than a lucky guess, and it still fits inside about fifteen minutes.

What students will practice

  • Compare two-digit numbers up to 50
  • Order three numbers from smallest to greatest
  • Read the tens digit before the ones digit
