About this worksheet
Twenty stacked problems like 16 − 4 and 19 − 3, with space to record a score out of 20. None of them cross ten, and the directions give away the secret: only the ones change.
That makes this a confidence builder. A child who knows 6 − 4 can now do 16 − 4, which is a big step for a page of bigger-looking numbers.
Use it just before problems that cross ten, so the teen numbers already feel familiar when the harder ones arrive.
What students will practice
- Subtract ones from a teen number
- See a teen number as ten and some ones
- Subtract within 20 without crossing ten
