About this worksheet
Eight empty ten frames, each with a problem like 8 − 3 or 10 − 6 underneath. The child draws dots for the first number, crosses out the ones being taken away and writes how many are left.
Because the child builds each number from scratch, this page asks for a little more than crossing out a printed picture. A frame also makes it easy to see how far a number sits from 5 and from 10, which is where quick mental subtraction starts.
It prints in black and white, so it is light on ink for a class set, and it works just as well with counters on the frames.
