About this worksheet
Sixteen division problems, each with a line to write an estimate before working it out. For 4 into 283, a child might think 280 divided by 4 and expect about 70. Four problems are three-digit and twelve are four-digit.
The estimate is a quick sense check that catches the classic slip of a missing zero in the quotient, since an answer of 52 when you expected 500 is obviously wrong. Several dividends sit just below a friendly number on purpose, so the estimate and the real answer land close together.
What students will practice
- Estimate a quotient with compatible numbers
- Divide three- and four-digit numbers
- Use an estimate to judge whether an answer makes sense
