About this worksheet
Six story problems, each with a small picture: markers into boxes, students into vans, stickers shared among friends, muffins into boxes, books onto shelves and beads into bracelets. The directions ask children to think about the remainder and decide whether to drop it, round up, or use it as the answer.
This is the fourth grade standard that word problems are really testing. 92 students in vans that hold 8 is 11 remainder 4, but the answer is 12 vans, because nobody gets left behind. Each problem needs a label, like 26 boxes, so the answer has to make sense in the story and not just on paper.
What students will practice
- Solve multistep division word problems
- Interpret a remainder in context
- Write an answer with a label
