About this worksheet

Six rows of bright pictures with three number words beside each. Two apples, five stars, ten flowers, six butterflies, three balloons and eight ducks. Count the group, circle the word that says how many.

This is the sheet that ties the two halves together. The other number names sheets go from word to numeral; this one goes from a real quantity to the word, which is the harder direction and the one that means a child actually knows what ten looks like rather than just recognizing the shape of the word.

The flowers and the ducks are laid out in two rows rather than one line, so a child has to track what they have already counted. That is the same skill the counting sheets build, arriving here inside a reading task.

Full color, which is what makes it work for the youngest children in the class, though it costs more ink than the black and white ones in this set.

What students will practice

  • Count a group of up to ten pictures
  • Match a count to its written word
  • Read the words for one through ten
