About this worksheet

Six pairs of bright pictures (balloons, cats, cupcakes, trees, balls and flowers) and a question over each one. Which balloon is bigger? Which cat is smaller? The child circles the answer.

The questions switch between bigger and smaller every time, so this is a listening page as much as a looking one. A child who circles the big one out of habit will get the next box wrong, and that is the moment to slow down and read the question again.

It brings in the words bigger and smaller, which is the language children need before they can compare three things or put them in order. Read each question aloud for children who are not reading yet.

What students will practice

  • Answer bigger and smaller questions
  • Compare two pictures side by side
  • Listen carefully for bigger or smaller
