About this worksheet
A three by three grid of squares, each holding one to five paw prints. The puppy starts in the top corner and the bone waits at the bottom, and the child colors a path through the squares in order, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, counting the paw prints to find each next step.
It mixes counting with knowing what comes next, the part of counting that young children often skip over. More than one square holds 1 or 2 paw prints, so the child has to look at where the path can actually go, not just hunt for the number. That bit of planning makes it feel like a puzzle.
