About this worksheet

Say the word, then write the letter it starts with. Six clothing pictures sit under a strip of six letters, B C D H M S, and each letter is used exactly once: hat, sock, dress, boot, mitten, cap. Pure line art, so it costs almost nothing in ink for a class set.

The second half moves from sound to hand. Hat, sock and cap are printed as dotted letters on ruled lines to trace, which are three of the same words just sounded out in Part A. Working the same small vocabulary twice, once by ear and once by pencil, is what makes it stick at this age better than six unrelated words would.
