Four word problems in framed panels, each with a bright picture beside it: a red balloon for Ana’s 4 and 5 more, an orange fish for the 7 Ben sees and the 6 that swim by, a pink flower for Lily’s 8 and 4, and a blue toy car for Sam’s 3 and 8. Every panel ends with a blank number sentence. Sums reach 13.
This is the gentler of our two first grade word problem sheets. The picture tells a child what the story is about before they have decoded a single word, which keeps a shaky reader in the math rather than stuck on the page. Once these feel easy, the plain text version asks for the same thinking with no picture to lean on.
