About this worksheet

“Count the Array” gives four numbered panels, the first already worked as an example with 2 rows of 4 red cars making 8. The child finishes the other three: 3 rows of 2 purple gems, 4 rows of 4 spotted mushrooms, and 3 rows of 5 green frogs. The mushroom panel is a square array, four across and four down, which is a nice moment to notice that the two numbers can match.

Print it for morning work or for a short session at the kitchen table. Second graders meet multiplication through pictures like these long before they learn their facts, and counting rows instead of individual items is the habit the page is building.

What students will practice

  • Count the rows and columns in each picture
  • Write a multiplication sentence for an array
  • Read a total from equal rows
