About this worksheet
A line-art farm scene with a llama, barn, duck, goat, cow, sheep and pig, followed by nine numbered directions. Color the pig pink. Color the barn red. Circle the animal with the beard. Draw an X on the animal with the long neck. Count the animals and write the number in the box. Underline the words that name farm animals in a bank that slips in tiger, whale, shark and monkey.
Two of the directions are the ones worth having. Neither the beard nor the long neck names the animal, so a child has to read the clue, look back at the picture and decide, which is a comprehension move dressed up as a coloring instruction. The word bank at the bottom does the same trick in print. A first grade sheet by design: every direction has to be read independently, and there are nine of them to hold onto.
