A Rainy Day: Weather Reading Worksheet for Grade 1

About this worksheet

Seven short lines about Sam pulling on his boots, taking a black umbrella and jumping in a puddle by the gate. The sentences are kept to one line each on purpose, so a first grader reading alone gets to the end of a line and the end of an idea at the same time.

All three questions can be answered straight out of the text, which is what a child at this stage needs: the practice is in going back and finding the words, not in inferring anything. The last section hands the page over to them, asking for a drawing of their own favorite weather and one sentence about it, so the sheet finishes with writing rather than more reading.
