About this worksheet

A sunny park full of labeled things to find: a girl, her dad and a baker, a duck on the pond, a dog, a bee, a kite in the sky, a bench, a ball, a shop and a flower garden. Twelve naming words in all, and the child writes each one into the right column of the chart below.

It feels more like a hunt than a grammar lesson, which is why it works well in the middle of a unit when attention starts to slip. There are three of each kind, so a column that fills up early is a hint to look again.

The places are the ones to watch. A shop looks like a place, but a pond and a garden often get filed under things until someone asks whether you can go there.

What students will practice

  • Find nouns in a picture scene
  • Sort twelve nouns into four kinds
  • Notice that a place can be small, like a pond or a garden
