About this worksheet

Eight sentences with a blank, and eight numbered balloons underneath. The key at the top sets my to red, his to blue, her to green and its to yellow, so the answer to each sentence decides what color its balloon gets.

The coloring is what makes this one self-checking. Each of the four words is the answer twice, so a finished page has two red balloons, two blue, two green and two yellow. A child who ends up with four blues has got something wrong and can see it without an adult saying so, which is a better correction than being told.

It also gives a child a reason to go back over their answers, which they will not do on a plain fill-in-the-blank sheet. The going back is the actual practice.

Plain black on white with a vector PDF, so it prints cheaply and the color arrives from the crayons rather than the printer.

What students will practice

  • Write a possessive adjective into a sentence
  • Carry an answer across to a color key
  • Check your own work by looking at the finished pattern
