About this worksheet

Nine pictures, each with its word: a nurse, a barn, a turtle, a drum, a library, a baker, a kite, a squirrel and a boot. Beside each one are the same four choices (person, place, thing and animal) and the child circles the one that fits.

There is no writing beyond a circle, so this is a quick way to find out whether the four kinds of noun have really sunk in before moving on to sheets that ask for more. The library is the one that makes children stop, because it is a building, and buildings look a lot like things.

It is plain line art, so it prints crisp in black and white and a child can color the pictures once the circling is done.

What students will practice

  • Decide whether a noun is a person, place, thing or animal
  • Use a picture and its label together
  • Get comfortable with the four kinds of noun
