Twenty-one full-color pictures in a three-column grid, each beside its word with the middle letter left blank: fan, web, zip, mop, nut, cap, peg, lip, top, bug, rat, gem, bin, rod, jug, bat, hut, wig, leg, cot, and cub.
This is the longest sheet in the vowels set and it sits a step above the kindergarten pages, both in length and in vocabulary. Alongside the everyday words are several a beginning reader meets less often, so it works best as a review once short vowels are secure rather than as an introduction. Naming the pictures together before anyone picks up a pencil is worth the minute it takes.
