About this worksheet

Twenty-five hot air balloons drift across the page in five rows, each printed with a single lowercase letter. Ten carry a vowel. Kids hunt for a, e, i, o, and u and color those balloons, leaving the rest empty. A few clouds and a bird float between them.

The balloons are the largest shapes in this set of four, so there is plenty of room for a fat crayon and less frustration for a child still learning to stay inside a line. Print it first if you are starting the vowel work with a younger kindergartner, then move on to the flowers, pears, or stars.

What students will practice

  • Find the five vowels hidden among consonants
  • Work through a grid without skipping rows
  • Fill large outlined shapes with color
