About this worksheet

Five CVC words run down the left in dotted outline for tracing, each next to its picture: bed, fox, pin, hat, and sun. The five vowels sit down the right. Kids draw a line from each word to the vowel that belongs in its blank, and the first one is done for them, with the e in bed already filled and a dashed line running across to the e.

Two things happen at once on this page. The dotted letters give handwriting practice, and the matching turns it into a puzzle with exactly one answer per row, since each vowel is used once. That constraint helps: a child who is unsure of the last word can reason their way to it from the vowels left over.

What students will practice

  • Trace a CVC word in dotted outline
  • Draw a line from a word to its missing vowel
  • Match five words to five different vowels
