Nine picture boxes in a three-by-three grid: a hat, a bed, a pin, a fox, a bus, a bag, a hen, a lip, and a mop. Under each drawing is its word with a wide blank where the vowel belongs. The five vowels run across the top in a rounded banner.
This is the roomiest layout in the set. Fewer words, bigger boxes, and a blank long enough that an oversized pencil letter still fits, which keeps a child from erasing their way through the page. Reach for it when nine words is the right amount of work and fifteen would be too many.
