About this worksheet
Ten pictures sit in a two-column grid inside a star-dotted border: a web, a map, a pot, a wig, a fan, a nut, a bug, a bed, a pin, and a log. Each one is paired with its word missing the middle letter, so w_b, m_p, p_t, and on down the page. The five vowels are printed across the top as a reminder.
The instruction has three steps on purpose. Say the word, write the missing vowel, then color the picture. Saying it first is what makes the phonics work: a child who writes without saying is guessing at the shape of the word instead of listening to it. Everything is line art, so the coloring is a genuine reward at the end rather than decoration.
