About this worksheet

Nine problems with four answer boxes each, and a green box already colored on the top row to model the task. The child adds and colors the box that holds the sum.

The sums land in order, 2 then 3 then 4 and on up to 10, which turns the page into a quiet number line. A child who notices the pattern can use it, and noticing is itself worth something. Several problems start with the smaller number (1 + 5, 3 + 6, 2 + 3), which is a good nudge toward counting on from the larger one rather than counting the whole thing out from one.

Good for the stretch where a child knows what addition means but is not yet quick, since choosing from four answers is easier than producing one from nothing.
