About this worksheet

An owl on a branch and a squirrel holding an acorn sit above fourteen addition problems, with two acorns tucked into the bottom corners. Each problem has a box to write the sum in.

The pairs are shuffled rather than graded, which is the right call once a child is past the first stage: 4 + 5 opens the page and 1 + 9 follows straight after, so they cannot settle into a rhythm and stop reading. Three of the fourteen make exactly ten, including 1 + 9 and 9 + 1 one after the other.

Woodland animals give this one a quiet autumn feel, so it slots naturally into a fall unit, and the outline drawing means it prints cleanly in black and white and can be colored in afterward.

What students will practice

  • Add two single-digit numbers within 10
  • Write the sum in the answer box
  • Count on from the larger number
