Nearly every ordinal page counts along a row, which is why this one stands a stack of five scoops on end and starts at the cone. Counting upward is the same skill pointed in an unfamiliar direction, and a child who sails through left-to-right pages often slows right down here, which is exactly the useful part.

Each scoop connects by a drawn line to a box holding both the word and the numeral, first (1st) through fifth (5th), and the first one is joined already as a model. A blank cone at the bottom asks for a scoop of the child’s own in a named position, which turns the page around: instead of reading a position, they have to produce one.
