About this worksheet
Most ordinal pages name a position and ask a child to find it. This one runs the other way: a single crab, jellyfish, shell, turtle or starfish is colored in each row, and the child works out which place it sits in and writes that in the box. Producing the answer is harder than recognizing it, and it is a fair test of whether the idea has actually landed.
A row of five sailboats across the top holds the positions first through fifth in order, so a child who needs a reference has one without being handed the answer. The colored creature is easy to pick out at a glance, which keeps the difficulty in the counting where it belongs.
