About this worksheet
No pictures to count and no rows to work along, just a numeral on the left and three words to choose from on the right. Stripping out the counting isolates the part children actually trip on, which is reading 4th and knowing it says fourth rather than fifth.
The wrong answers are chosen to be plausible rather than obvious: fifth sits next to fourth, sixth next to second, so a child who is guessing from the first letter gets caught. One row is circled already as a model. A short, plain page that makes a good warm up before a longer ordinal sheet, or a quick check that the words are secure.
