About this worksheet

Twelve line drawings run down the page in two columns, each with the words a and an printed beside it. A child names the picture, hears whether it opens on a vowel sound, and circles the article that fits. Once the circling is done the pictures are there to color.

The twelve split six and six between the two articles, and the drawings were picked so the vowel sound is the deciding factor rather than the spelling. An anchor, an ear, an ostrich and an ice cube sit among a crown, a drum, a flower and a train. It prints in black and white and uses very little ink, which makes it easy to run off for a whole class.
