About this worksheet

Eight sentences in a soft blue frame, each with a colored picture, and a yellow word bank at the top holding just four words. My, his, her, its.

Narrowing the bank to four is what makes this the step after the circle sheet. A child now writes rather than circles, and has four options rather than two, but our, your and their are held back so the page does not turn into a memory test. The instruction says outright that a word can be used more than once, which stops the common wrong move of crossing a word off after using it.

Two sentences give it to an animal, the dog with its bone and the bird with its nest. Those are usually the last two a child gets, and they are worth doing together out loud the first time.

The pictures do real work here. A child who cannot decide between his and her can look at the orange cat or the pink hat and settle it.

What students will practice

  • Write a possessive adjective into a sentence
  • Choose between four words rather than two
  • Reuse the same word where more than one sentence needs it
