About this worksheet

Seven rows down the page, each with a picture and a pronoun in large capitals. I, YOU, HE, SHE, IT, WE, THEY. Along the bottom, behind a scissor line, sit seven words to cut out. THEIR, HIS, MY, ITS, OUR, HER, YOUR.

This is the sheet that shows the pattern as a whole. Every other sheet in the set asks a child to pick a possessive inside a sentence; this one lines all seven up against the pronouns they come from, so the shape of the system is visible on one page. I goes with my, they goes with their, and the cat goes with its.

Because there are exactly seven words for seven rows, a child who is stuck on one can get there by elimination, which is a legitimate way to work it out rather than a flaw. The cutting also slows the whole thing down, and slowing down is usually what a child needs here.

What students will practice

  • Pair a pronoun with the possessive that goes with it
  • Build the full set I, you, he, she, it, we, they
  • Cut and glue accurately into a box
