About this worksheet

One line drawing holds three identical balls, two cats and a bird, and six instructions underneath tell a child which is which. Color the ball on the table red, the one under the table blue, the one next to the table green. Color the cat in the box orange and the cat behind the box purple. Color the bird over the table yellow. A checkbox sits beside each instruction to tick off.

Three identical balls is the clever part: the only thing separating them is the place word, so a child who skims will color the wrong one and the mistake shows up immediately in color. It also lets a child who cannot yet write a word prove they understand it, which makes this a good option for the youngest end of first grade. Prints black on white.
