About this worksheet

Six framed pictures of the same grey mouse turning up in six places: in a basket, on a stack of books, under a chair, behind a plant pot, in front of a blue door and between two wedges of cheese. Six word cards wait at the bottom behind a scissors line, and a dashed box under each picture shows where each one belongs.

Cutting and pasting slows a child down in a useful way. Sorting six loose cards means holding all six options in mind at once and comparing them, rather than answering one line and moving on, and the physical act of placing a word gives it somewhere to stick. Set out scissors and a glue stick and expect this one to take a little longer than a writing sheet.

What students will practice

  • Match a place word to a picture
  • Cut on a line and paste in a box
  • Sort six words with no repeats
