About this worksheet

A mostly empty scene with a tree, a table, a shelf and an open box, and six instructions asking a child to fill it in. Draw a cat under the table, an apple on the table, a ball in the box, a bird over the tree, a bike next to the tree and a mouse behind the box. Each instruction has a checkbox to tick when it is done.

Every other sheet in this set asks a child to recognize the right word. This one asks them to produce the placement themselves, which is a real step up: there is no bank to choose from and no picture to check against, so getting “behind the box” right means genuinely knowing it. The drawings will be rough and that is fine, since what you are reading is where things ended up, not how well they were drawn.

What students will practice

  • Turn a written sentence into a placement
  • Produce an answer instead of choosing one
  • Follow six instructions on one picture
