About this worksheet

Seven short sentences about sea turtles: they live in the ocean, have a hard shell, swim with flippers, eat sea grass or jellyfish, and lay their eggs in the sand. Each fact gets its own line, so a first grader reading alone finishes one idea before starting the next.

The child draws a line to finish four sentences, then writes the answer to one question. Matching is a good bridge between circling and writing, since all the words are already there and the job is deciding where they go. The last question has two right answers, sea grass or jellyfish, which is worth pointing out.

What students will practice

  • Read a short nonfiction passage
  • Match sentence beginnings to their endings
  • Write one answer found in the text
