About this worksheet

Eleven clues, each describing one body part, with a line beside it to write the answer. They start easy, with five of these on each hand and ten of these on your feet, and finish somewhere quite different: food goes here after you swallow it, and these hard parts hold up your body inside.

There is no word bank anywhere on the page, and that single omission is what makes this a second grade sheet rather than a first grade one. A child has to arrive at shoulders, elbow and stomach on their own and then spell them unaided, which is a real step up from copying a word out of a list. The last two clues are the ones worth talking through afterwards, since a child who answers stomach and bones has understood that a body part does not have to be one you can point at.

What students will practice

  • Read eleven clues and name the body part each describes
  • Write answers with no word bank to copy from
  • Reason about parts you cannot see, like the stomach
