About this worksheet

Eight sentences down the left, eight adverbs down the right, and a line to draw between them. A snail crosses the path slowly, Nia tiptoes quietly past her sleeping brother, Dad wraps the glass vase carefully in paper, the bakery opens early before the sun is up.

Use each adverb only once is the constraint that makes this more than eight separate guesses. The last few lines get easier as the pool shrinks, so a child who stalls early can work the puzzle from the other end and come back to what they skipped. A bonus line at the bottom asks for one sentence of their own using any adverb from the list.

What students will practice

  • Match a sentence to the adverb that completes it
  • Use each adverb exactly once
  • Write an original sentence with one of the adverbs
