Maya’s dinosaur book is due back on Friday, and on Thursday night it is not in her backpack. She checks under the bed, behind the couch and in the closet, until her dad asks where she read it last and she remembers the back porch. Most children have lost something the night before they needed it.

Question two asks for two places Maya looked, so one answer on the line is not enough, which is a useful thing for a child to notice on their own. Question three asks what retrace her steps means, and the dad’s question right after it is the clue. The last question asks how Maya felt when she found the book, with two lines for the reason.
