About this worksheet
Four splat-shaped faces across the top make the key: happy is yellow, sad is blue, mad is red and scared is purple. The child colors the key first, then colors twelve round faces below to match, three of each feeling, mixed up across the grid.
Every face has to be looked at closely before it can be colored, which is the real practice here. Eyebrows and mouths do the work: angry brows slant down, worried eyes go wide, a tear means sad. Coloring the key first gives a child a reference they made themselves, and many preschoolers will start naming the faces out loud as they go, which is worth encouraging.
It is plain line art that prints in black and white, so it uses very little ink.
