About this worksheet
Two big boxes at the top, Happy and Sad, and six picture cards along the bottom to cut out: a present, bubbles and a new puppy, then a lost balloon, a hurt knee and a broken toy. The child cuts out each card and glues it in the box where it belongs.
This sheet moves from faces to situations, asking how a thing would make someone feel. That is a different skill from recognizing a smile, and it is the one that grows into empathy. Each box takes three cards. A child who puts the broken toy under Happy probably has a story to tell, and that conversation is worth more than the right answer.
The cards are in full color, and the cut and paste gives busy hands something to do while the thinking happens.
