Six written fractions run down the left in large boxed type, and each has three shaded shapes beside it with exactly one correct match. The wrong options are chosen to catch real mistakes rather than to be obviously wrong, so a row asking for one third offers a shape with two of three parts colored and another with one of two.

Reading a fraction is easier than writing one, which makes this the gentler of the two symbol pages in this set and a sensible place to start. The reliable method is to check the bottom number first, throwing out any shape without that many parts, and only then count what is colored.
