About this worksheet

Eight shapes have some parts colored, and beside each one sits a box with a fraction bar already drawn, waiting for two numbers. The set runs from a single colored strip out of four up to three of four, with a circle in thirds and a square in fourths along the way, so both unit and non-unit fractions turn up.

This is the step where the words a child already uses turn into written numbers, and the fraction bar is the whole lesson: the number of colored pieces goes above it, the number of pieces altogether goes below. Say “three out of four” while pointing at the box and the two numbers usually land in the right places. Children who are still counting parts one at a time may want to work through the picture pages in this set first.
