Eight rows of coins, each with two boxes to fill: the total, and how much more it would take to make one dollar. A hint reminds the child that $1.00 is 100¢, which is the whole trick of the second column. Totals range from 27¢ to 91¢, and the coins are out of order in most rows, so sorting them first helps.
The second column is subtraction from 100 in disguise, and it is good groundwork for making change later. A child who gets the first column right and the second wrong usually does better counting up from the total to 100 than taking away, and trying it that way often clicks straight away.
