Six toys each have a price tag and a row of five or six coins underneath: a yo-yo, a toy car, a jump rope, a ball, a teddy bear and a box of crayons. The child colors only the coins needed to pay the exact price. Every row includes at least one coin that does not belong.
Choosing which coins to leave out is harder than counting all of them, and it is closer to what paying in a real store is like. The 30¢ ball is a good example: two dimes look promising, but only a quarter and a nickel get there. The coloring keeps it light, and the page prints well for a class set.
