About this worksheet

An owl holding a ruler sits beside the heading “Count the Sides!” with a name line above it and small shape doodles scattered around the border. Eight shapes fill a grid four rows deep, each with three circled numbers to choose from: triangle, rectangle, octagon, oval, square, heptagon, hexagon and pentagon.

This is the longest side-counting sheet in the set and the one that goes furthest, since the heptagon and the octagon mean counting to seven and eight without losing the place. That is the real skill on this page, and it is worth showing a child how to mark a starting side with a fingertip and go around once. Save it for after the six-shape version, and treat the heptagon as a bonus rather than something that has to be named.

What students will practice

  • Count up to eight sides accurately
  • Color the correct answer from three circles
  • Meet the seven and eight sided shapes
