Filed under first grade rather than kindergarten on purpose. The last four rows leave three-letter words behind for a double l, a ck ending and an nd blend, and reading “hand” and “sand” accurately is a different job from reading “cat” and “hat.” The first four rows are gentler, so the page ramps rather than starting hard.
